Banff is a town with lots to offer; it’s on every backpacker’s bucket list, both for the amazing unspoiled wilderness and outdoor pursuits of the National Park – and for the renowned reputation of being a great place to work with, live with and party with other young folks from around the world! And there’s no better place to do this than at our hostel.

We’re a team of avid travellers who’ve chosen to work in this place, and this hostel, because we want to be immersed in a culture of other like-minded people who believe in respecting each other, learning about other people’s cultures, and squeeze the best out of our Banff experience.

There’s room for growth and discovery! Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we’re eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles.

Our staff accommodation has everything you need and is extremely affordable, one of the cheapest in town. Add to that we’ve got a fleet of mountain bikes and camping gear for you to borrow to get out and explore even more... not to mention 13 other Mountain Park hostels that you get to stay at for free, so you can expand your explorations to the rest of the parks... or even the rest of Canada... knowing you’ve got a place to sleep and friends to connect with everywhere you go, for free!

What's in it for you

Get the best value on staff accommodation: Free private staff acommodation for Management positions.
Constant events to join in on with other guests and staff, such as karaoke, pub crawls, BBQs, campfires, learn-to-rock-climb days... or borrow one of the mountain bikes or camping gear, or strap on your ski/snowboard gear, and head out with your teammates for your own adventure!
All units are fully furnished, have access to hostel WIFI, and include all utilities/cable TV.
Free HI Memberships.
Free stay at other HI properties (13 other hostels in the Banff/Jasper/Yoho area alone!)
40% off any other meals in our restaurant, and your basement houses Banff’s cheapest bar with free pool, darts and foosball!
Free FAM trips.
A laid-back atmosphere where the uniform’s a T-shirt and the guests are backpackers just like you!

What You Will Be Doing as a Food and Beverage Manager
As the Food & Beverage Manager, you’ll take the lead in running our on-site café/restaurant and bar, making sure every guest has a memorable experience. Day to day, you will:

Oversee daily operations of both the café/restaurant and bar, ensuring smooth service and high standards.

Lead, train, and support your team, creating a positive work environment that brings out the best in everyone.

Deliver excellent guest experiences, welcoming travelers from around the world and making sure they feel right at home.

Manage inventory, ordering, and suppliers to keep everything well-stocked and cost-effective.

Plan menus, specials, and promotions in collaboration with the team to keep things fresh and exciting.

Coordinate catering for large groups and events, ensuring smooth execution and top-quality service.

Organize and support event nights (live music, trivia, themed dinners, etc.), creating fun social experiences for guests.

Ensure compliance with health, safety, and licensing standards, keeping our spaces safe and professional.

Work with hostel leadership to align the F&B operations with the bigger hostel experience.

Jump in where needed – whether that’s pouring pints, running plates, or chatting with guests at the bar.

What we look for
We’re looking for an energetic and motivated leader who thrives in a fast-paced, community-oriented environment. The right person will be:

Hard-working & hands-on – you’re not afraid to roll up your sleeves, jump behind the bar, or help out on the floor when needed.

A people person – you genuinely enjoy connecting with guests from around the world, creating a welcoming atmosphere, and leading by example with a positive attitude.

Team-focused – you know how to build, motivate, and support a team, fostering collaboration and respect in every shift.

Organized & detail-oriented – you can manage schedules, stock, budgets, and service standards while keeping everything running smoothly.

Flexible & adaptable – hospitality is full of surprises, and you’re quick on your feet, ready to problem-solve and keep things moving.

Passionate about food & beverage – you take pride in delivering quality experiences, from great coffee to cold pints to memorable meals.

About HI

We love travelling. To us, travel isn’t just about going places, it’s also about meeting people, discovering cultures, eating new food and most of all, learning how people do things differently than we do back home.

We believe that through hostelling, we become more conscious about the world around us; and we can even make the world a better place.
