Communications Coordinator
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.

The Opportunity
The Communications Coordinator assists the Marketing and Communications teams in the preparation, implementation, execution, and evaluation of Communications activities at Banff Centre. The objective of this position is to support Banff Centre’s Marketing and Communications needs to achieve the goals of the organization.

This role gets a first-hand look at how we tell Banff Centre’s story to a number of important stakeholders: our participants, our audiences, our local community, our staff, and more. They will be in-the-know of exciting Banff Centre programs, events, and initiatives, and will play an important part in disseminating these stories across a variety of platforms, from the press to the website to staff meetings.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Communications, below are some key accountabilities:

Internal Communications/PR/Media

Assist in gathering content for and executing internal communications, like emails, newsletters, intranet posts, and instant messaging
Assist in maintaining ongoing records of key quotes, testimonials, photos, etc. for annual reporting
Assist in gathering media mentions and clippings for post-event reporting
Assist with communications-related website updates, article and story creation, and photo management
Assist with media material creation, research, and/or dissemination, such as media calls, press releases, listings documents, etc...
Manage local event listings outlets for public Banff Centre events
Proactively watch for new outlets, writers, and social media influencers to include in overall communications and media relations strategies
Monitor Communications inbox and work with Director of Communications to facilitate requests
Assist Director in preparation for Communications-led events like webinars, staff meetings, etc.
Assist in gathering and editing content for Reflections, Banff Centre’s annual Report to Community
Assist in selecting key media images and work with Banff Centre Photo Services
Community Relations and Marketing Promotions

Work with the Marketing and Communications team members in the implementation of Marketing and Communications plans. This includes:
Researching, writing, editing, and proofing written materials
Working with graphic designers and web specialists on communications materials related to campaigns
Executing a community relations strategy that promotes Banff Centre awareness, food and beverage engagement, and event attendance among Bow Valley locals
Executing a staff engagement strategy to promote Banff Centre awareness, food and beverage engagement, and event attendance among internal staff
Managing charitable ticket and hotel stay giveaway donation requests
Online Engagement

Assist Officer, Social Media in social monitoring and engagement
Monitor and respond to online review platforms like Yelp, TripAdvisor, and Google Reviews with approved messaging
Reporting on comments to Marketing and Communications and impacted Banff Centre departments as needed
Support the Communications team’s social media objectives by participating in social media capture plan as needed
Support template creation and updates to assist in online announcements and information sharing Build Facebook Events for public Banff Centre events
Other

Ensure all related activities align with Banff Centre brand guidelines. This includes communicating and implementing the positioning phrase, key messages and visual identity adopted by the organization.
Assist in the research, development, and upkeep of relevant contact databases
Assist in research and analysis, identifying audiences and strategies/mediums for reaching prospective and current target groups and timelines for completion of work
Stay informed through attendance of programs, conferences, performances, gallery exhibitions, readings, lectures, rehearsals, films, etc.
Qualification and Educational Requirements
1 to 3 years of related Marketing and Communications experience is required
Undergraduate degree or diploma in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field
Experience working with an arts institution, conferences, hospitality, and/or a post-secondary institution is considered an asset
Proven writing and editing skills are required
Proven computer skills with an extensive knowledge of MS Office, familiarity with Internet, and web-based communication. Strong attention to detail and time management skills to manage multiple projects with concern for accuracy
A fundamental knowledge and understanding of Marketing and Communications and communications practices
Exceptional customer service with a client focus to clearly understand needs of programs, services, and administrative areas
High level of reliability and motivation
Self-directed with the ability to work under broad direction without close supervision
Adaptable to changing priorities and tasks
A team player with excellent interpersonal communication
Analytical skills that enable good problem solving
Bilingual (French/English) is an asset
Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job and department, this position may require the candidate to be available to work a flexible schedule at times, including evenings and weekends, when needed.
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
The annual salary for this position is between $42,432.00 and $44,553.60, depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
