Marketing Manager

The Opportunity
Marketing and Communications is critical to the profile of Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. The role is also important to build engagement with artists, faculty, and audiences that will ensure the Centre’s global identity and financial success. The responsibility of the Marketing Manager is to oversee the successful execution of Banff Centre’s goals through ongoing engagement with key internal and external stakeholders, the wider marketing and communications team, and by acting as an engaged project manager across portfolios, to ensure successful project workflow amongst team members while forecasting needs to come through collaborative planning.

The Marketing Manager actively implements and manages marketing strategy under the direction of senior leadership and across a range of portfolios with diverse key performance indicators. This roll guides creation and creates plans to assist Banff Centre to recruit quality participants, to build digital and physical audiences to showcase our participants, faculty, guest artists, and presenting events, to engage with our communities and stakeholders locally, nationally, and internationally, and to assist Development, Conferences, Hospitality, and Fitness and Recreation areas in maximizing enterprise revenue. This role works closely with the Manager, Digital Marketing Platforms, and Manager, Digital Marketing to execute campaigns across the organization in support of all Banff Centre activities.

The Marketing Manager is responsible for leading Banff Centre’s traditional marketing efforts, including day to day management of marketing officers and designers. The Marketing Manager will oversee a team that have accountabilities for the development and implementation of Marketing and Communications campaigns, plans, arts and leadership program marketing plans, events marketing plans, brand and advertising campaigns, and creative output for the Centre as a whole. This role oversees the traditional advertising budget and general revenue/expenses of the overall Marketing department, with input from the management team.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to Executive Director, Marketing and Communications, below are some key accountabilities:

Planning and Financial

Works collaboratively with key stakeholders to build annual plans supporting the strategies for raising the profile of the organization and its programs, conferences, events, and donor relations
With the Management team, leads the development of the department’s annual budget.
Human Resources, Team Building and Interdivisional Cooperation
Fosters an internal culture that maintains the highest standards for customer service, excellence of staff, participant and guest experience, and fiscal, operational, and organizational integrity.
Enables staff to function as a high performing team at all times, maintaining open communication, clear objectives and priorities, and a culture of positive behavioral intent that is consistent and in alignment with Banff Centre values and is welcoming and inclusive, supporting a diverse workforce.
Recruits, hires, and mentors staff, assigning work, and measuring their performance in relation to the strategic standards of excellence and goals. Works closely with the Human Resources Team to ensure policies, procedures, contractual, legislative and work culture expectations are met.

Marketing Strategy

Develops marketing and communications initiatives to support various Banff Centre stakeholders, including Conferences, Hospitality, Food and Beverage, Human Resources, Fundraising/Development, Mountain Culture, Arts, Leadership, and community engagement.
Creates marketing and communications toolkits to support Banff Centre teams in achieving wider organizational goals.
Insights and Metrics

Remains apprised and assists the Marketing and Communications team to become aware of trends in marketing, communications, and brand management, and actively uses this knowledge to collaborate with arts and leadership colleagues in the creation of Banff Centre’s dissemination platforms and related content, as led by the Manager, Digital Marketing, and Manager, Digital Marketing Platforms.
Email Communications

With management team, oversees delivery, performance, and management of the organization’s email marketing and communications strategy . This role is accountable for increasing awareness, understanding, and appreciation of Banff Centre brand, with a special focus upon building our audiences, increasing effectiveness of engagement through testing, and connecting our on and offline communications and communities.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
At minimum, a bachelor's degree and/or a college diploma in marketing or a related field. Minimum 5 years progressively responsible marketing and management experience in directly related skill areas is required.
Experience in the post-secondary sector and/or arts and culture is an asset.
Exemplary management skills with strong experience in team building and engagement and motivation.
Hands on leader of team, who can roll-up their sleeves to deliver.
Experience managing initiatives to support strategic planning and budget planning.
Ability to analyze, plan and implement.
Ability and experience in managing multiple projects with appropriate attention to detail within a deadline-oriented environment.
Ability to manage with ambiguity.
Employment Terms and Benefits
In accordance with the terms of employment governing Management/PSP employees, this is a salaried, fulltime position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
The salary range for this position is $67,367 - $100,039 based on experience.
The successful candidate will enjoy twenty paid vacation days and four personal days annually, extended medical and dental benefits, and participation in an employer-matched pension plan.
