Journeyman Carpenter

Our Physical Facilities department helps keep our campus running! We're looking for a skilled Journeyman Carpenter to help with fabricating, alteration and construction of carpentry related projects across campus.

Specific Accountabilities
Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance, this position works to install or repair windows, doors, wall tiles, floor tiles and all other flooring, handrails, paneling, molding, roofing and ceiling systems.
Modify existing workstations, cabinets, counters and other custom millwork as required.
Construct, demolish, fabricate, install, remove or renovate components that are necessary in the day to day operation of Banff Centre including existing workstations, cabinets, counters and other custom millwork as required.
Construct and erect small outbuildings or sheds and other structures made of wood, wood substitutes, metal or other building materials.
Occasionally may be required to attend meetings and be available to provide technical support by way of inspections, prepare estimates and develop scopes of work for projects and renovations, identify and correct building deficiencies, and/or report them to the Manager.
Assist with purchasing tasks in accordance with established procedures and order materials and equipment as needed.
Qualification and Educational Requirements
Completion of Journeyman carpenter certification
At least 5 years of carpentry and building maintenance work experience
Experience with inventory management and sourcing and ordering parts
Knowledge of the Alberta building codes
Excellent customer service and communication skills
Demonstrated track record of effective problem solving
Strong team player
Physically fit and capable of working in physically demanding work environments including confined spaces, high temperatures, and loud noises
Able to work independently, with minimal supervision
Class “5” Alberta driver’s license.
Special Requirements
Due to the unpredictable nature of repair needs, this position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays or extended hours, as needed, especially during the winter months.
This position involves lifting, pulling, bending and managing heavy equipment and objects.
Ability to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold.
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period.
This position has an annual salary of $78,000 per year, working 37.5 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
A compressed work schedule to allow for an additional day off every 2 weeks will be considered after completing the probation period.
