Business Analyst

The Opportunity
The Business Analyst is responsible for effectively planning, coordinating and executing various work required to implement new software and processes for corporate functions. The Business Analyst works collaboratively with the functional delivery team members, the Project Management Team and IT/S to complete project deliverables and manage work assignments for the project.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to Project Lead- Systems Implementation, below are some key accountabilities:

Responsible for planning and coordinating work assignments needed to complete pre-production reviews of business requirements with host departments and project stakeholders, and to design and/or guide the development of business processes that support functional requirements identified in the project.
Identifies business process inefficiencies/gaps, and works with the project team to select, develop and/or design process improvements that will effectively utilize new systems, tools and functionality.
Support system functional setup and configuration activities to prepare system environments for testing and to transition from development to pre-production and production.
Guides and coordinates the development of test scenarios for functional requirements and ensures the timely preparation for test data to accurately represent those scenarios.
Works with the project team to coordinate functional system testing, data conversion/migration testing and user acceptance testing. Ensures data quality, accuracy and completeness throughout testing and validation. Evaluates the need for data cleanup with host department staff.
Ensures that all security requirements are met over sensitive Finance and/or HR/Payroll data, and assists with the definition and implementation of system roles and responsibilities for end user access to portals, reports, etc.
In the absence of the functional delivery team lead, acts as liaison with the vendors’ project managers on functional requirements (together with other project team members).
Acts as one of several reviewers for end-user training materials to ensure that business processes and functional requirements are accurate and complete.
Updates the project team on a regular basis as to status of deliverables. Escalates any issues that may cause impact to project schedule, budget or scope as required.
Identifies risks and assists with the development of contingency plans as needed.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
A university degree in business administration, commerce or related discipline plus 5 years of related experience
Background and experience in business analysis, and design of business applications and processes preferred.
Capable of managing multiple tasks and work assignments.
Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in a team environment with technical and functional team members as well as all levels of end users.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Training in Lean or other process improvement techniques would be an asset.
Experience with risk management would be an asset.
Employment Terms and Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probation period.
The annual salary for this position is between $58,843 - $61,776 depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
