Our Physical Facilities department helps keep our campus running! We're looking for a Construction and Maintenance Worker to help with the maintenance and repair work as required by all departments at The Banff Centre. Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Maintenance and and under direction from the Journeyman Carpenter, this role performs maintenance/construction including repairs to furniture, roofs, site maintenance, and vehicle checks. Specific Accountabilities Required to perform maintenance/construction work for all interior and exterior of buildings at The Banff Centre. Assist with interior and exterior repairs including: window repair, glass and doors, building entrances and steps, walls, floors, ceilings, stages, siding, etc. Roof repairs including investigating and repairing minor leaks. Site maintenance on walkways, railings, stairs, benches, fences. Construction and demolition in support of renovation projects. May help frame and construct walls in support of renovation projects including baseboards and casings. Drafting support and helping to maintain an inventory of all drawings for current and future projects. Helps retrieves plans and drawings for staff, architects and consultants in support of maintenance and construction work. Confirms on-site conditions, such as construction materials and measurements, excluding electrical and mechanical, in support of projects. Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles, shuttles vehicles for servicing, performs daily routine maintenance checks including fluid levels, cleanliness and damage to vehicle body and tires. Assists the grounds team with manual and mechanical snow removal on campus, weeding flower beds, mowing lawns, and helps with daily campus cleanup. Qualification and Educational Requirements At least 5 years of relevant work experience. Experienced with recognized procedures and techniques in construction/maintenance and repair. Skilled and experience to safely operate power tools and equipment. Knowledge of the proper and detailed operation and maintenance of hand and power tools as well as specialized equipment. This position is expected to deal with customers on a regular basis. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential. Strong team player Physically fit and capable of working in physically demanding work environments including confined spaces, high temperatures, and loud noises Able to work independently, with minimal supervision Class “5” Alberta driver’s license. Special Requirements Due to the unpredictable nature of repair needs, this position may be required to work weekends, nights, holidays or extended hours, as needed, especially during the winter months. This position involves lifting, pulling, bending and managing heavy equipment and objects. Ability to work in all weather, and must be prepared for both extreme heat and cold. Employment Terms & Benefits In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, permanent, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6-month probationary period. This position has an annual salary range of $41,574 and $43,660.50 per year depending on experience, working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan. A compressed work schedule to allow for an additional day off every 2 weeks will be considered after completing the probation period.
