Reporting to the Director of Service Delivery, this position is accountable for developing, facilitating, and implementing training and safety programs for Roam's Transit Operators and all employees, ensuring that standards around licensing, customer service, public safety, and operational excellence are met or exceeded. Job Profile: Position Summary Develop, coordinate, and deliver training for new and existing Roam Transit Operators and other employees. Ensure that training programs and the training environment meets both provincial and company standards, and results in the successful licensing of employees and the ongoing safety of the public and staff. Monitor and evaluate policies, procedures, techniques, and equipment and develop standard/safe operating procedures (SOPs). Identify risks or gaps and proactively develop training programs to minimize exposure. Keep updated on best practices through affiliations and research, and recommend improvements as required in the work environment. Provide customer service through the investigation of public and internal feedback related to incidents, employee actions, and/or behavior. Represent Roam Transit in public settings as required. This could include, but is not limited to; on-site investigations, collaboration with Commission partners, and interaction with vendors and suppliers. Provide support and direction to Field Supervisors and review field performance objectives on a bi-weekly basis. Work closely with HR to help ensure documentation related to licensing, driving records, and customer complaints are kept up-to-date and accessible in the appropriate database and according to legislative requirements. Work closely with management to ensure that programs and initiatives are consistent with industry best practice and regulatory requirements, and that programs and initiatives are rigidly adhered to. Provide reports to management as required, including verbal presentations. Provide statistical overviews of safety and training data. Provide guidance regarding Occupational Health & Safety related inspections, investigations, and reporting requirements. Lead collision & incident investigation with support from Field Supervisors. Investigate all safety concerns, gather evidence, conduct interviews, review data, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders. Determine the cause and contributing factors of the collision, providing recommendations to prevent future incidents to enhance transit safety. Work with the Manager of Operations to ensure all safety and service incidents, complaints and concerns are investigated, documented, and addressed within defined timeframes. Verify and document compliance with provincial policies and regulations. Relay messages, and exchange information using a variety of communication devices, including computer-aided dispatching equipment. Use various computer applications and tools. Other duties as assigned. Responsibilities: Training Overall accountability for defining, delivering, and constantly improving Roam's current training curriculum. This includes the training of new hires, existing employees, and well as the training of Roam's Driver Trainers. Ensure all documentation for driver training is in place, catalogued efficiently, remains current, and applied consistently for all staff. Lead the driver training team to create and deliver best practices for training. Coordinate and schedule training sessions for new hires to ensure upcoming operational needs for drivers are met. Arrange appropriate provincial examination appointments with local service providers. Work collaboratively with the Manager of Operations and Dispatch to coordinate the availability of buses for training. Become qualified to operate and promote the successful use of all training aids including Roam's state of the art transit driving simulator. Ensure proper training is completed and training materials are available for operational tools such as the washbay equipment, wash lane tools, bus charging dispensers and bus charger infrastructure. Collaborate with operational staff to ensure safe/standard operating procedures are developed and applied. Safety Oversee the Health and Safety committee here at Roam, ensuring all staff are informed and up to date on all current H&S requirements, and feel safe and secure while at work. Coordinate and document quarterly H&S meetings with all departments. Identify workplace safety hazards, as well as assist in the development, and implementation of controls. Ensure Roam's H&S program is current and being implemented. Provide updates and reports to management and Commission regarding current status of safety and compliance. Ensure all safety equipment is adequate and in good working order. Examples include building and bus fire extinguishers, defibrillators, First Aid kits. Work with local service providers to ensure required inspections are completed. Qualifications: Education Requirement: High School Diploma required. A college or technical school diploma in a relevant field or discipline is an asset Driver training or other advanced education certificates are assets Health and Safety training or certification are assets Experience: A minimum of 5 years' experience in a medium sized transportation organization; knowledge of safe vehicle operations Supervisory experience in a high paced environment is an asset Previous Health & Safety experience within an organization. Involved with safety and/or training opportunities in the past with Proven experience observing and documenting processes. Knowledge, skills, and abilities: Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner Proven ability to build successful and positive working relationships with team mates as well inside and outside contractors. Strong ability to document processes within an organization and the ability to multi-task in a seasonally demanding environment. Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English, oral and written. Employee training/education experience would be an asset. Knowledge of adult education principles, technical writing, or instructional design an asset. Excellent presentation, interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills. Proficient Computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Class 1 or 2 driver's license and air brake endorsement Driver's abstract with no more than 3 demerit points Other Requirements, Conditions: Must be legally able to work in Canada. Must pass police security clearance. Alberta driver's license in good standing.
