Job Description

At Rimrock Banff, every exceptional dining experience begins behind the scenes. As Assistant Chief Steward, you will be a key leader within our Food & Beverage team, ensuring the seamless operation of the resort's culinary and event spaces while fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and care.

Start Date: June 2026
Contract Type: Fixed-Term Contract
Pay Rate: $56,000 - $58,000 per year, dependent on experience

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Team Development

Lead, coach, mentor, and inspire a large Stewarding team
Foster a positive, collaborative, and high-performing workplace culture.
Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and ongoing development of Stewarding colleagues.
Conduct performance discussions, coaching conversations, and workplace audits for Stewarding Supervisors and team members.
Ensure progressive corrective action processes are completed accurately and consistently when required.
Promote colleague engagement through active participation in employee feedback initiatives and action planning.
Operational Excellence

Support the day-to-day management of Stewarding operations to ensure efficient and effective service delivery.
Maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, organization, and presentation throughout kitchens, dishwashing areas, and back-of-house spaces.
Partner with Culinary and Food & Beverage leaders to support the delivery of exceptional guest experiences and ensure operational standards consistently meet guest expectations.
Ensure all equipment is clean, properly maintained, and operating effectively.
Input and monitor work orders for equipment and facility repairs.
Inventory, Procurement & Financial Management

Assist with procurement oversight, inventory management, and purchasing processes to ensure operational readiness and cost-effective practices.
Support departmental budgeting initiatives, including labour management, operating expenses, and capital planning.
Monitor labour productivity and scheduling practices to support operational efficiency while maintaining service standards.
Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce waste, and manage costs responsibly.
Health, Safety & Food Safety Compliance

Champion a culture of safety, accountability, and food safety throughout the department.
Assist with oversight of food safety programs and sanitation practices, ensuring compliance with all regulatory and company standards.
Ensure compliance with all health, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety regulations.
Train and support colleagues in following all required health and safety procedures.
Participate in health and safety inspections, food safety audits, and corrective action planning.
Support and lead external health and sanitation audits in the absence of the Chief Steward
Sustainability & Continuous Improvement

Support departmental sustainability initiatives and environmental stewardship goals.
Monitor key departmental metrics and contribute to continuous improvement strategies.
Gather feedback from employee engagement initiatives and implement action plans to drive meaningful results.
Contribute to operational innovation and process improvements that enhance efficiency, guest satisfaction, and colleague experience.

Qualifications

What You Bring

Previous supervisory experience in Food & Beverage; stewarding experience strongly preferred.
Proven leadership experience in a structured, fast-paced environment.
Strong organizational and communication skills.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards.
Knowledge of WHMIS and safe chemical handling; First Aid and Food Safe certifications an asset.
Valid Alberta Driver’s License with clean abstract.
Bonus If You Bring

Experience leading large operational teams (15+ colleagues).
Strong technical knowledge of sanitation systems and kitchen operations.
Experience in luxury hotel or resort environments.
A passion for coaching others toward technical excellence and professional growth.
