This is your chance to serve a community of almost 9,000 residents and over 4 million annual visitors to one of the most fulfilling places on Earth.

You “Take Care of Banff” by delivering public relations for the Town of Banff in support to 100 programs and services in 70 service area clients. Your work promotes the programs to local residents and visitors, while conveying strategic priorities for our unique mountain community. Your experience, education and professionalism engage internal clients from across the municipal organization to deliver the best possible service to Banffites.

You will have a wild time working on campaigns ranging from wildlife protection to wildfire preparedness, and wild nightlife management to wild events welcoming the world. As a public relations intern you will work with all members of the communications team, with meaningful responsibilities in preparing content that meets communications objectives for specific projects. You will help develop ways to engage the public and motivate behaviours through writing, storytelling and advertising copy. You can help make a difference in the community serving the people who live in and visit Canada’s first national park, a World UNESCO Heritage Site.

You take the time to learn about the issues, understand the project objectives, the risks, the influencers and the opportunities to convey important ideas through channels that are best for target audiences. You are an independent worker, who can take ideas and develop drafts quickly, while responding to feedback openly. You are ready to change direction in a rapidly evolving environment that is constantly under the scrutiny of media and the local community. You work well with a team working on fast-paced projects that require attention to detail, near-perfect accuracy and empathy in all work with the public. You help speak for the organization.

You must be in the latter stages or have completed a post-secondary certification or degree program in public relations, communications, public engagement or a related field. You demonstrate experience in taking projects from objectives to implementation in a variety of channels. You are fluent in all aspects of a Microsoft Office work environment. You can demonstrate experience addressing challenges with solid public relations solutions and can clearly articulate how your ideas and strategies advance objectives in a compelling fashion.

The position is a short-term internship working entirely remote, about 35 hours per week, for up to 12 weeks in the summer of 2023, with possibility of extension. An honorarium of $20 per hour will be provided.
