Scope
To complete high-quality carpentry work throughout the Hotel, ensuring that all furniture, fixtures, doors, trim, mouldings, and other woodwork are professionally maintained and a fresh, bright look is presented in all areas and at all times.
Duties & Responsibilities
Construct, repair and maintain all wooden furniture, fixtures, decorative panelling, and equipment in all areas of the hotel, including in guest rooms, meeting rooms, restaurants, lobby, and staff areas
Work with metal studding and gypsum wallboard; construct shelving, cupboards, cabinets, etc., finishing to the specifications set out by Hotel Management
Maintain all doors in the building to ensure proper closing and appearance
Assist the painter in preparing all walls for covering with paint, wallpaper, panelling, or tile
Keep the carpenter’s shop clean and organized at all times
Ensure all work is performed safely, utilizing the appropriate PPE as required
Work efficiently and safely to minimize waste and to help reduce the purchase of materials and supplies and overall production costs
Thoroughly plan all projects and present a list of all required material and costs to the Chief Engineer for review prior to being ordered, ensuring all materials are in line with existing specifications and are at the best possible price
Continuously be on the look-out for any deficiencies around the Hotel and record in the maintenance log book, ensuring Chief Engineer is made aware of any major issues
Be knowledgeable of the safe use and disposal of all potentially hazardous materials that are utilized in the Engineering department
Be available to assist the other Maintenance personnel as needed
Physical Demands
Requires significant walking and standing
Significant bending, kneeling, crouching, stretching, reaching above and below shoulder height, twisting
Frequent climbing of stairs
Occasional climbing of stools and ladders
Frequent lifting and carrying items weighing up to 22 pounds / 10 kg
Occasional lifting of items weighing up to 50 pounds / 23 kg
Exposure to chemicals and controlled substances
Working indoors and outdoors
May be required to work in enclosed spaces
Qualifications
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent
Journeyman Carpenter Certificate
5 years of carpentry experience
Able to meet the physical demands of the position
Demonstrates a mechanical aptitude
Keen attention to detail and high working standards
Able to work effectively independently and as part of a team
Able to problem-solve responsibly
