Technical Producer, Mountain Culture
This is a term position from August 18 to December 19, 2025

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director, Festival and World Tour (DFWT) and liaising directly with Media and Production Technical Producer/Director (MPTPD), the Technical Producer, Mountain Culture (TP) is responsible for the planning, management and supervision of all technical and production elements of Banff Centre Mountain Film & Book Festival (BCMFBF) & World Tour both for live events, recordings of events and preparation of online/on demand content.

The position ensures the continuation of the Festival's international profile as the largest, most successful, respected and acclaimed festival of its kind in the world and contributes to the long-term growth and sustainability of the Mountain Film and Book Festival, World Tour and related Mountain Culture programming.

The TP works collaboratively with Performing Arts Production and Media Production on planning and scheduling of Media and Production resources required for the festival and tour.

The TP identifies and builds strategic technical partnerships to support and offset expenses in mounting live events and delivering online content.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Festival and World Tour (DFWT), below are some key accountabilities:

Responsible for leading the production needs and technical set up BCMFBF and World Tour to ensure delivery of successful events, programs and online content
Develops and recommends appropriate delivery and support systems to ensure a world class festival and world tour
Works collaboratively with Media & Production team, articulating needs and deliverables and programming objectives of festival & tour
Contributes to digital strategy objectives for area; particularly World Tour and online objectives
Takes direction from the DFWT to ensure budget expectations are realized.
Liaises with Manager, Strategic Sponsorships and sponsors to ensure on-screen presence production representation is adequate.
Oversees quality control of all content, providing creative producing feedback to media team
Coordinates all technical billing for internal and external vendors.
Seeks price reductions and discounts from the private sector.
Ensures legal contracts, releases and obligations are met.
Prepares and processes details required for billing, invoicing and ongoing A/R as per Banff Centre procedures and guidelines
Sources and recommends to MPTPD short term hires, and outlines work allocation allocates work for staff and contract specialists.
Ensures training, and evaluates performance of staff and contract specialists providing assessment to MPTPD
Assists MPTPD with contract negotiation, monitors and evaluates external service contracts.
Develops contract specifications as required for the above.
If required, works with the volunteer coordinator to determine technical needs and scheduling for technical volunteers.
Sources external rentals for festival/WT as required including quotes, insurance, shipping
Works with Technical Director, Performing Arts to create technical and staging plan for onsite festival
Work with Audiences Services providing all technical/product information required for AS team.
Oversees quality of service of supporting areas
Develops and executes technical and production schedules and budgets; reconciling and reporting resources used.
Prepares the overall scheduling/booking of media studios, and festival/tour production activities; ensuring required facilities and resources are booked and entered in scheduling software, including meeting rooms, studios, personnel and required equipment as approved by MPTPD
In collaboration with MAP staff, their sponsors, and other Banff Centre departments, produces and directs to broadcast quality television standards, all required BCMFBF events and activities including BCMFBF and WT, which includes but may not be limited to seminars, speaker presentations, simulcast feeds, and studio interviews.
Initiates festival production meetings with appropriate production staff and Banff Centre teams; and monitors project progress so that event stays on budget and on time.
Produces BCMFBF sponsor intros, sponsor banner, on-line contest, intermission PSAs and award winners for web encoding.
Produces all WT sponsor intros, sponsor banners, promo clip tapes and intermission ads.
Produces additional video productions as required.
In addition, the Producer:

Attends and directs dress rehearsals of presenters.
Produces web promotional material for BCMFBF and sponsor/client needs.
Oversees the production of authored presenter content required for multiple venue simulcast presentations.
Oversees the production of recorded audio and video documentation of required BMF events and activities for archival purposes including speaker presentations, seminars, studio recordings.
Coordinates media requirements during Festival events.
Assists in formulating TVB annual PSA certification application.
Manages photo services content reversion for production needs.
Discusses production issues with content providers as required.
Contributes to Banff Centre content strategy for Mountain Culture led by DFWT

Qualifications and Educational Requirements
Completion of university degree in related discipline or equivalent professional experience
Minimum ten years of festival/event experience with media production expertise
Thorough knowledge of lighting, sound, and video in media production
Knowledge of theatrical venues, both including lighting, projection sound an staging
Working knowledge of current safety standards and the implementation of same.
Product, material, pricing, and logistics research skills.
Experience fulfilling technical riders for speakers and presenters
Experience with a variety of types of live performance
Knowledge and practical experience using Microsoft Office.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple streams with tight deadlines and a positive attitude while working under pressure.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the Festival programming, this position may be required to work an irregular schedule including evenings, holidays, and weekends.
