The Banff & Lake Louise Hospitality Association (BLLHA) is a respected, consensus-building organization that promotes the well-being of the accommodation and food & beverage sectors in Banff National Park. We are focused on the issues that positively impact the sustainability of the business community and will further enhance the experiences of all visitors to Banff and Lake Louise.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director, Workforce & Destination Affairs is responsible for leading workforce support strategies, stakeholder relations, communications, and destination-wide initiatives. The role also involves research, policy insights, advocacy, and issues management, ensuring alignment with BLLHA’s strategic objectives and broader destination plans.

Core Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership & Advocacy

Lead key destination-wide initiatives in areas such as sustainability, workforce health and wellness, labour attraction, Indigenous workforce development, professional growth, and emergency preparedness.
Ensure alignment of projects and initiatives with the BLLHA Strategic Plan and other relevant destination plans, including the Lead Tourism for Good Vision, Banff and Lake Louise Community Plans, and Parks Canada Management Plan.
In partnership with the Executive Director, engage with municipal, provincial, and federal governments on workforce-related policies and other key issues affecting the commercial sector in Banff and Lake Louise. Communicate relevant updates to stakeholders.
Stay informed on municipal, provincial, and federal political landscapes as they impact the workforce and the broader tourism and hospitality industry.
Utilize data and reports from provincial and national government and industry partners to inform destination professional development strategies and advocacy efforts.
Represent BLLHA on local and regional committees to proactively monitor and address risks and opportunities related to destination reputation, brand, and economic and workplace performance.
Industry Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement

Lead the BLLHA HR Committee in collaboration with the member Committee Chair, providing updates and resources that support long-term workforce sustainability.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with local agencies, sector associations, and provincial and national destination marketing organizations.
Manage and coordinate industry events with government, associations, and other partners focused on economic opportunities, workforce development, and sector challenges.
Support organizing and executing BLLHA’s annual Housekeeping Olympics, celebrating and recognizing destination heart of house employees.
Represent the commercial sector in regional emergency planning activities and act as a liaison between industry stakeholders and emergency response teams during crises.
Work with the Operations Administrator and the Communications & Government Relations Strategist to effectively communicate with stakeholders (members and industry) and promote events.
Communications & Reporting

Lead workforce and destination initiative communications for BLLHA newsletters, social media, Basecamp, and the Association website.
Work with Administration to develop workforce development budget, ensuring alignment with the annual business plan.
Provide monthly and annual reports on areas of responsibility to the Board of Directors, Executive Committee, and membership.
Attend monthly and ad hoc operational meetings with Administration.
Qualifications / Required Skills

Education & Experience

5+ years of experience in a senior operational leadership role within the tourism or hospitality industry, preferably in Banff National Park.
Post-secondary degree or diploma in human resources, communications, public policy, tourism management, or a related field.
3+ years of experience in workforce development, stakeholder relations, policy advocacy, or a similar role.
3+ years of experience in a role where internal and external communications were key responsibilities, including developing messaging for employees and/or guests, drafting reports, managing newsletters, and coordinating organizational communications
Experience working with government agencies, industry associations, or tourism/hospitality organizations is an asset.

Self-Motivation & Independence – Able to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.
Employment Details

Employment Type: Contract role (Annual, renewable)
Estimated Contract Hours: 1,250 hours per year
Compensation: Commensurate with experience

Location

BLLHA is a hybrid organization, operating virtually with in person meetings and events. The successful candidate is expected to work from their own home office and attend BLLHA in-person meetings, as required.
