Transit Technology Specialist


Job Profile:


Position Summary


As the Transit Technology Specialist at Roam, you'll play a key role in ensuring the provision of secure and dependable public transit technologies. Reporting to the Director of Service Delivery and the Manager of Operations, the Transit Technology Specialist will assist to ensure the operational success of the entire transit system by implementing, managing, and maintaining all BVRTSC’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) related components.


The successful applicant will embrace technology. They must be comfortable trouble shooting existing and future ITS hardware and software as it pertains to Roam transit buses and services. Experience with project management as it relates to the roll out of new transit related technologies, along with the confidence and ability to trouble shoot and assist with the maintenance of technical transit equipment is required.


Responsibilities:


Continuously be on the lookout for ways of improvement with regards to transit related technologies.
Ensure the day-to-day readiness and operation of Roam’s ITS systems.
Farebox maintenance and component swapping, component cleaning and returns management with vendor.
Continual testing and maintenance of on-board safety camera systems.
Trouble shooting and maintenance of on-board automatic passenger counting technology.
Assisting with minor bus component installation and removal - such as swapping out bus radio components, bike racks, ski racks, small ITS components such as driver info screens, safety camera hard drives.
Ensure ITS related component supplies are well stocked (e.g. farebox spare parts, ticket vending machine paper tickets and spare parts)
Become familiar with Roam Transit’s Automatic Vehicle Location system.
Liaise directly with vendors and support technicians to ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
Any other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


Education Requirements:


Highschool diploma
Post-secondary diploma/degree in IT/Transportation or related field and/or equivalent demonstrated knowledge and direct experience in related discipline.

Experience:


Minimum of three years experience in a technical role, dealing hands-on with various technologies and hardware
Additional experience in an operations environment is desired.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:


Must be able to update real time transit service-related technologies and be comfortable trouble shooting existing and future ITS hardware and software as it pertains to Roam transit buses and services.
Solid understanding of public transportation/transit industry and trends is an asset.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Excellent time management and organizational ability.
Demonstrated strong project and task management skills.
Proficient computer skills and comfortable with embracing new technology solutions.
Be able to identify and respond to issues in a calm and professional manner.

Other Requirements, Conditions:


Must be legally able to work in Canada.
Must be able to provide Criminal Record Check (not older than 6 months)
Valid Alberta Driver’s license, preferably Class 2, in good standing with no more that 3 demerits against the license in the past 2 years
Available for occasional weekend work throughout the year if requested and as required.

Compensation & Benefits:


Salary Range $68,000 to $75,000 per year
