Intermediate Audio Visual Technician

The Opportunity
Banff Centre supports artists and conference guests from around the world with artistic and creative development in the mountains. We're looking for an Intermediate Audio Visual Technician who can provide a range of audiovisual services for requests across The Banff Centre, and who will be a key member on the content capture production team. We are looking for someone who is energetic and committed to creating a positive work culture, and who is also experienced with the technical skills needed to help a variety of artists, faculty, and guests.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Production Manager, Media and Production, below are some key accountabilities:

Coordinating and booking equipment requests; verifying equipment integrity prior to delivery and at retrieval; delivering/retrieving and setting up equipment as per client specifications; testing to ensure proper function and troubleshooting as needed
Logging equipment usage in computer system for tracking and billing purposes; preparing invoices and/or accepting payment for equipment rental
Meeting and conferring with clients to ascertain their equipment needs; serving as dedicated Technician/Operator when required
Providing leadership for the audio-visual components of content capture requests coming from all areas of the Centre and communicating these needs and requests to the rest of the Technical Services team
Acting as robocam operator and video switcher for content capture events as required
Providing all department coordinators with group training sessions on various types of audio-visual equipment as required
Performing routine maintenance and minor repairs of equipment
Providing tape and disc duplication services for analogue audio, digital audio, and videotape DVD and data files to all Banff Centre clients
Keeping informed of current audio and video technology and making recommendations for improvements of operation and equipment inventory
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
1 year or more of formal post-secondary training in computing, electronics, or another discipline relating to the job
At least three years of experience performing all aspects of audio-visual delivery and production including: design; set-up; operation; and minor maintenance to AV systems and equipment
Well-experienced in the set-up, usage, and minor repair of all types of audio and visual equipment as well as with specialized computer equipment and software used in the recording, production and duplication of audio and video content
Efficient and organized with strong time-management skills
Able to clearly and effectively communicate instructions to clients with varying levels of equipment usage experience
Physically capable of the frequent lifting of heavy objects and working in awkward or confining locations
Excellent administration skills relating to preparing quotes, invoices and booking and tracking equipment
Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule, and weekends
Physical stamina and the ability to move heavy equipment is required
This position requires a valid Alberta driver's license
Employment Terms and Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500 hour probationary period.
This position pays between $21.51 and $22.59 per hour, depending on experience, working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
