Position Title: Service Team Member, Prep-Cook, Hybrid, Summer 2024


Classification: Full-Time, Seasonal. (10 days on, 4 days off rotation)


Service Team Wage: $175 per day plus gratuities.

Prep-Cook Wage: $220 per day plus gratuities.


Benefits: Lodge accommodation and meals are included at no charge during working days.

Location: Backcountry hut at Shadow Lake Lodge, Banff National Park


Service Team Responsibilities:

Providing information about the lodge, the services, and activities available in the area.
Cleaning, dishwashing, stocking and maintaining lounge spaces, lodge cabins and washrooms.
Helping prep, serve, and host meals/beverages for guests.
Assisting management in preparing bills and reviewing accounts with guests.
Reports directly to the Lodge Manager.
Works closely with service team peers, Guest Services Manager, and Chef to ensure smooth, quality service for guests.
Other duties as assigned.

Prep-Cook Responsibilities:

Ability to work under pressure.
Excellent verbal communication skills.
Strong organizational skills.
In-depth knowledge of kitchen health and safety requirements.
In-depth knowledge of safe and efficient food storage guidelines.
Ability to use kitchen utensils safely (proficient knife skills).
Ability to take direction and work as a team player.
Knowledge of some specific cooking/baking processes.
Follow Food Safety, OHS, WHMIS best-practices, and SLL COVID-19 procedures.
Assist the Chef on duties with preparation of ingredients to facilitate the execution of the services.
Following recipes to assist and or execute on the preparation of fresh baked goods.
Keeping the kitchen and other workstation clean and organized.

Skills & Qualifications:

Be outgoing and friendly.
Experience hiking or biking.
Possess excellent interpersonal teamwork skills.
Be able to work without access to the internet for the duration of your shift at the lodge.
Be proactive with the ability to think and work independently.
Have a background in cooking/baking & hospitality
Have outstanding communication skills – be able to collect and act on feedback in an effective and timely manner.

This job is in a remote area of Banff National Park. Accommodation is provided on shift, as well as lodging at our HI Canmore Hostel (subject to availability and nominal fee**) off shift. Employees are responsible for getting themselves to and from the lodge for work shifts.


About the ACC: The ACC is a not-for-profit organization established in 1906 that has grown to include 33 backcountry huts and 25 volunteer-run sections across the country. We also organize seasonal programs, such as our annual General Mountaineering Camp, as well as Shadow Lake Lodge and our hostel in Canmore. We have a rich history in Canadian Mountaineering and a dynamic team at the office to manage our diverse portfolios. Shadow Lake Lodge is the ACC’s only full-serviced backcountry accommodation. Shadow Lake Lodge, located in the backcountry of Banff National Park, is an excellent base for hiking and exploration. Comfortable lodging in private cabins and hearty, healthy, gourmet meals, along with the hospitality of the ACC create a memorable experience for every guest.


Position Overview: Must love the outdoors and working in a remote location! We are looking for reliable individuals with guest service skills who will assist with various duties during our upcoming fall season at Shadow Lake Lodge. You will be on a team with other like-minded individuals to help with food service, food prep, housekeeping and delivering excellent customer service. You will be an important part of the overall operations at the lodge and will continue to provide the exemplary service levels that have come to be expected by returning and first-time guests.


This is a seasonal job opportunity. The SLL summer season runs from June 7th to October 5th, 2024. Daily rate of pay is based on a 10-hour day, worked as a split shift. Shifts are typically 10 days on, 4 days off.
