True North Hostelling Association Banff, AB Banff is a town with lots to offer; it’s on every backpacker’s bucket list, both for the amazing unspoiled wilderness and outdoor pursuits of the National Park – and for the renowned reputation of being a great place to work with, live with and party with other young folks from around the world! And there’s no better place to do this than at our hostel. We’re a team of avid travellers who’ve chosen to work in this place, and this hostel, because we want to be immersed in a culture of other like-minded people who believe in respecting each other, learning about other people’s cultures, and squeeze the best out of our Banff experience. There’s room for growth and discovery! Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we’re eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles. Our staff accommodation has everything you need and is extremely affordable, one of the cheapest in town. Add to that we’ve got a fleet of mountain bikes and camping gear for you to borrow to get out and explore even more... not to mention 13 other Mountain Park hostels that you get to stay at for free, so you can expand your explorations to the rest of the parks... or even the rest of Canada... knowing you’ve got a place to sleep and friends to connect with everywhere you go, for free! What's in it for you Get the best value on staff accommodation: $6.50 per day for a shared room in one of our seven on-site staff apartments. Constant events to join in on with other guests and staff, such as karaoke, pub crawls, BBQs, campfires, learn-to-rock-climb days... or borrow one of the mountain bikes or camping gear, or strap on your ski/snowboard gear, and head out with your teammates for your own adventure! All units are fully furnished, have access to hostel WIFI, and include all utilities/cable TV. Free HI Memberships. Free stay at other HI properties (13 other hostels in the Banff/Jasper/Yoho area alone!) 40% off any other meals in our restaurant, and your basement houses Banff’s cheapest bar with free pool, darts and foosball! Free FAM trips. A laid-back atmosphere where the uniform’s a T-shirt and the guests are backpackers just like you! What you will be doing as a Line Cook Our Line Cooks work the front-of-house in our open kitchen as well, so you’ll not only be preparing and cooking meals in a timely, standardized, and professional manner, but will also be directly serving our customers, handling payments and sharing your knowledge of Banff and the area to our curious guests who always want a local’s perspective on things! If you love working in a restaurant environment and can handle high volume workloads, this could be the job for you. You’ll also be able to enjoy the fact that you’re part of a not-for-profit organization that embraces sustainable tourism. Room for growth and discovery! Many of our leaders started out on the front lines, and we’re eager to promote from within and provide opportunities to try out different roles. What we look for You’ll need some previous cooking experience; we’ll train you up to be a great line cook in time, but some previous commercial kitchen experience is required. You’ll need to bring your positive energy and humour to work every day, because as well as working with teammates you’ll also be dealing with our guests directly – you're the face of the hostel! You’ll need to be able to handle some stressful times when it’s busy with a smile and be interested in learning more. Our team learns how to be line cooks, servers, bartenders and handles large catering for a significant part of the year – and you’ll be involved in all of these if you stay with us long enough! Join our community If everything you read above got you excited, you'll be a great fit for our team. Whether you're on a working holiday and this will be a short stop on a longer trip, or you're looking to stay connected to the hostel lifestyle by working among travellers, this is the kind of place for you. Our team is made up of people from all over the world who are bound by our shared desire to discover new places. You recognize that what draws you to Banff is what draws our guests here, and you're committed to working with a team of like-minded people to share the best of Banff and the accessibility of travel with the world. Check out what it's like to live and work here: www.hihostels.ca/workinbanff About HI We love travelling. To us, travel isn’t just about going places, it’s also about meeting people, discovering cultures, eating new food and most of all, learning how people do things differently than we do back home. We believe that through hostelling, we become more conscious about the world around us; and we can even make the world a better place. Our mission is to build a community of conscious travellers who share a greater understanding of people, places and cultures through our network of hostels and people. Hiring Insights Job activity
