Graphic Designer
Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity aims to inspire everyone who attends our campus – artists, leaders, and thinkers – to unleash their creative potential.

The Opportunity
Marketing is critical to the profile and viability of Banff Centre. The goals of the department are to effectively position Banff Centre as a globally recognized Centre for creativity, to assist programs in recruiting quality participants, to promote events that showcase our participants, and support all Banff Centre properties.

The Graphic Designer is an essential member of the Marketing team, providing professional graphic art services including planning, design, layout, production, and presentation for a range of promotional and corporate communications materials, and insuring and defending brand consistency.

Roles and Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director, Marketing, below are some key accountabilities:

Design and Artwork

Design and produce artwork for diverse Banff Centre projects including, but not limited to: advertisements, digital ads and html materials, editorial publications, brochures, corporate materials, posters, invitations, annual reports, proposals, stationary, performance programs, and signage.
Design graphics for Banff Centre website and various online platforms.
On-site design projects such as signage, direction signs, and advertising boards.
Print Materials

Manage pre-press co-ordination by working directly with printing houses to prepare printer specifications, obtain quotes, schedule production, prepare print ready files, conduct press checks at the printing house, and co-ordinate printing.
Project Management

Establish and maintain project schedules and costs, and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within budget.
Brand Identity

Provide and show leadership regarding branding and Banff Centre’s visual identity. This includes communicating and implementing the key messages and visual identity adopted by the organization.
Industry Trends

Maintain current knowledge of developments within the computer graphics and design industry.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
5+ years of graphic design experience
Diploma or degree in graphic design or related experience is required
Experience in designing material for the arts or other post-secondary institutions will be considered an asset
Experience producing corporate publications is essential as this position will provide expertise and resource services to Banff Centre departments focusing on stationery and forms, educational program pieces, and marketing products.
A thorough knowledge of design, design practices, promotion, packaging, and production and high degree of creativity and vision in approach to design is essential.
High technical proficiency with the below applications.
Macintosh OSX Operating System
Adobe Creative Suite applications including InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat and Photoshop.
Microsoft Office applications, and scanning hardware/software
Working knowledge of Adobe Animate, and Adobe After Effects for the purpose of interactive & animated web content / digital advertising is considered an asset

Proven ability to solve problems with creative solutions and to do that collaboratively, including team members beyond the immediate design or marketing division
Solid interpersonal communications (written and verbal)
Employment Terms and Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period.
The annual salary for this position is between $56,388.80 and $59,196.80, depending on experience, based on working 40 hours per week.
The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
