As a Labourer with the Resource Recovery team, you “Take care of Banff” in a cross-functional role that performs sorting, collecting and handling residential, commercial and town-site solid waste and recyclables. On any given day you are exposed to new and varying tasks, equipment and work locations, as well as diverse interactions with Town colleagues and Banff’s business owners, residents and visitors.

This safety-sensitive position provides you with training and opportunities in the operation of equipment, tools, vehicles and containers, requiring you to apply knowledge, judgement and experience. You are keen and can assess the cleanliness, repair and maintenance needs of containers and the appropriate collection and/or sorting of miscellaneous items. You possess qualities of observation and action, using your experiences in workplace safety and cleanliness to evaluate, report and resolve issues and maintain high standards.

You have a valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s licence and can provide a current and clean drivers’ abstract on hire. You have demonstrated experience with workplace safety programs and the operation of a light duty truck and similar equipment. A mechanical aptitude and a valid Class 3 Alberta Operator’s licence are assets.

You are able to meet the physical demands of this position, including; pushing, pulling and lifting of 50-100 lbs, safely climbing into and out of the cab of large vehicles, working in extreme weather conditions, overcoming exposure to container area conditions and smells and have the stamina to work at a steady pace, on your feet throughout a full shift.

The Resource Recovery department operates seven days a week, year round and shifts may vary.
