Conducts highway/road clearing and snow removal using medium and heavy vehicles (Wheel loader, grader, skid steer) and equipment requiring a Class 1 or 3 license with air brake endorsement; operates/controls multiple blades and salting mechanisms; and performs a variety of highway/road maintenance tasks for the Parks Canada Agency. Intent of the process The Highway Operations Unit is gearing up for a busy winter season and is looking to hire a number of Class 1 & 3 Snow Plow Operators for positions that are up to 6 months in duration. In order to be considered, your application must clearly explain how you meet the following (essential qualifications) OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION For GL MDO 06 positions: Class 3 driver’s license with air brake endorsement For GL MDO 07 positions: Class 1 driver’s license with air brake endorsement EXPERIENCE Experience driving heavy trucks Experience operating heavy equipment The following will be applied / assessed at a later date (essential for the job) English essential KNOWLEDGE Knowledge of highway maintenance and traffic control procedures. Knowledge of safety measures and regulations common to highway maintenance. ABILITIES Ability to operate heavy trucks up to GVW 60,000 pounds Ability to visually inspect equipment and perform pre and post trip maintenance Ability to assess and report on road, visibility, and weather conditions. Required to travel over roads closed to the general public and to work under avalanche hazard conditions. Required to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods of time. Required to work shift work – during day – and nighttime hours, overtime, weekends, and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays, and call back or standby duty. Candidates will be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and/or periodic medical checks.
