Description

Security Personnel are in a highly visible role and provide an outstanding experience via the protection and surveillance of guests, staff, and the resort premises. Personnel are trained to observe, record, and report atypical interactions with guests, staff, contractors, and visitors to Banff National Park, and to accurately respond to situations where attention to detail and reporting requirements may be increased (including, but not limited to scenarios involving trespass, the Criminal Code, the National Fire Code, current public health rules and regulations). Security Personnel report to the Security Supervisory Team and work closely with all departments at the resort.

Job Functions

Provide an outstanding guest experience by offering up assistance and polite reminders of current rules and regulations. De-escalate situations and know when to call for additional enforcement personnel, where necessary.

Monitor, manage access, and complete checks in all areas of the ski area leasehold – including outdoor areas, buildings, structures, alpine terrain, staff accommodation.

Coordinate after-hours emergency response.

Respond to alarms (fire, building, phone alerts) and react appropriately with correct type and level of response.

Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities:
Generate reports and emails to document findings in a timely manner.
Create formal reports where required for ongoing investigation or further agency reporting.
Timely and accurate incident reporting and deficiencies reporting to appropriate departments/personnel.
Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time.

Experience/Requirements

Personnel must have completed or be working towards Alberta Basic Security Training, ProServe, ProTect.
Valid First Aid certification, with a strong interest in emergency response operations.
Must be 21 years or old with a clean driving record – Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) and drivers abstract evidencing last three (3) years in all relevant jurisdictions must be provided on start.
Positive attitude along with a demonstrated ability to be calm under pressure and patient. Personnel must possess good judgment and communication skills, suitable for managing potentially serious situations.
Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, early mornings, evenings, holidays, overnight shifts).
Prepared to work outdoors in all weather conditions (appropriate footwear, layers, gloves, etc.)
Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally.
Ability to ski or snowboard is an asset, but not required. Skiing or snowboarding for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing and riding professionally, and is restricted to designated runs.
Skiing or snowboarding equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village Equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season.
Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty.
Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers and all Banff Sunshine staff and volunteers.
Practical computer skills. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products.
Additional Considerations

Employees must always be of sound mind, exhibit good judgment, and report to work fit for duty.

This position requires a strong the ability to stand for long periods of time and occasional heavy work.

This role may operate machinery and vehicles.

Personnel may at times work alone, at night, and are in a remote, alpine environment.

Required uniform pieces (liner, jacket, pants, radio) are provided.
