As the Municipal Energy Coordinator, you are joining our dynamic team of Planning & Development professionals who are committed to “Take Care of Banff” by ensuring that the environmental performance of the Town of Banff’s infrastructure reflects the natural heritage, beauty, and grandeur of Canada’s premier national park.

The Municipal Energy Coordinator will be on the front line of the Town’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and fossil fuel dependence, in pursuit of the community’s ambitious energy and emissions goals outlined in the Environmental Master Plan and Renewable Energy Transition Plan.

You have the ability to think creatively and critically about the many possibilities for building and operating green infrastructure, and developing local low-carbon energy resources. You are passionate about energy efficiency and climate action, and are able to use your knowledge and experience to address the many practical challenges inherent to the ongoing energy transition.

Your energy management responsibilities require you to be a champion for continuous improvement. The safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of the Town’s infrastructure is the shared responsibility of numerous operations and administrative staff. Forging effective working relationships with these staff will be essential for achieving the Town’s energy and emissions goals, which you will support by leading the development of a Zero Carbon Transition Plan for the Town’s facilities.

To qualify for this position you should have five years of experience in a professional role related to energy project management/development, greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, energy/climate planning, energy auditing, facilities engineering, green building design, or building commissioning. An undergraduate or graduate degree in a related field is required, as is eligibility for accreditation as a Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or Energy Manager-in-Training (EMIT). Your credentials should clearly demonstrate a high degree of fluency in the technical language of energy systems and climate change.

“Taking care of Banff: our People, our Community, our Park.”

For your safety, and the safety of others, you will be required to provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccinations on your start date.
