Job Description

This role will be responsible for supporting the Health & Wellness Manager in driving our Safety and Wellness programs forward, administering WCB claims, and directing Health & Safety activities and programs for an employee base of up to 1,400.

The successful candidate will possess training and previous experience in a Health & Safety role, excellent organizational skills and outstanding attention to detail. This role is highly administrative; this person must enjoy working independently, taking initiative and building strong relationships with Colleagues & Leaders alike.

Competitive Salary: $63,000 - $65,000 gross annually, based on previous experience & education

Job Duties Include:

Reporting to the Health & Wellness Manager, responsibilities and essential job functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Worker’s Compensation Board:

Responsible for Worker’s Compensation Board (WCB) program, including submission and follow up on claims with WCB Case Managers, Departmental Leaders and employees; as well as facilitating return to work meetings and programs.
Liaise with third party providers as required for complex claims management cases.
Responsible for maintaining WCB reporting programs and providing support and training throughout the hotel as needed.
Maintains and reports monthly WCB statistics.
Support the Health & Wellness Manager in preparing for semi-monthly Lost-Time Claim meetings with executive committee.
Monitor claims trending costs, communicate projected cost information with the Health & Wellness Manager.
Provide back up support to the Health & Wellness Manager for required executive committee reporting.
Health & Safety (H&S):

Act as Employer Representative Committee Co-Chair for the Joint Health & Safety Committee (JHSC).
Communication of deliverables to leaders, H&S representatives and colleagues.
Ensure completion of all H&S deliverables outlined as part of the H&S Critical path.
Provide training to JHSC representatives in compliance with OHSA.
Provide H&S development and maintenance opportunities to leaders and colleagues.
Ensure all incidents, accidents, near misses and occupational diseases are reported through internal communication channels for appropriate follow up.
Review all internal incident reporting to ensure appropriate action to prevent recurrence is scheduled and completed in a timely manner.
Provide training and coaching on incident reporting and investigation to new and current leaders in the hotel, as well as JHSC members.
Comply with requests from legislative OH&S representatives including site visits, reporting and ensuring follow up as needed.
Coordinate COR certification & maintenance audits with the assistance of the H&S Committee and the Health & Wellness Manager.
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements for first-aid certification within the hotel, and schedule training to offer additional first aid training / re-certification as needed throughout the year.
Work with the Health & Wellness Manager to develop and implement hotel-wide safety initiatives as required.

Partner with Health & Wellness Manager and the Learning & Development Manager to plan and present wellness related trainings.
Provide support to the Health and Safety Manager with:
Implementation of wellness initiatives;
Planning and presenting the Wellness & Safety Fair;
Developing and maintaining resources for employees support;
Advertising and communicating wellness offerings throughout the year.
Provide information and support to leaders and colleagues on Wellness & Benefits offerings as needed.
Provide coverage to the Health & Wellness Manager when they are on vacation or away from the office.

Qualifications

Your Skills & Qualifications:

Minimum of 3 years Human Resources experience.
Previous leadership experience is an asset.
Previous experience with HRIS/HR Systems is required.
Degree, Diploma or Certification in Human Resources Management.
Equivalent experience may be considered.
Occupational Health and Safety Certification or training.
Equivalent experience may be considered.
Health and Safety Auditor Training and Certification is an asset.
Strong Computer literacy and experience working with Microsoft Window applications.
Must have strong attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize and multitask in a demanding, fast-paced office environment.
Proven interpersonal skills, both written and oral; and a demonstrated level of confidence, humility and empathy in providing constructive feedback and managing sensitive conversations.
Highly responsible, organized and innovative, with the ability to work cohesively as part of a team.
Driven and energetic self-starter who thrives when presented with a learning opportunity.
Comfort with public speaking and delivering training in large groups of up to 100 people.
