The Relais & Châteaux - Post Hotel & Spa in Lake Louise, Alberta is hiring for the Head Sommelier position.

Position Overview:

The Head Sommelier elevates the dining experience at The Post Hotel by providing expert guidance to guests, ensuring seamless wine service and assisting the Director of Wine in curating an exceptional wine program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Daily Operations Management:

Oversee the day-to-day operations of the wine program
Manage wine service standards and ensure consistent execution by the sommelier team
Coordinate with other departments to ensure smooth service integration
Perform other duties as assigned
Staff Training and Development:

Conduct regular training sessions for sommeliers and other restaurant staff on wine knowledge and service
Mentor sommeliers and support their professional growth
Assist in the onboarding of new sommelier team members
Inventory Control:

Manage the wine cellar, ensuring proper storage and rotation of inventory
Conduct regular inventory audits and reconciliations
Place orders for wine restocking in consultation with the Director of Wine
Guest Service:

Provide expert wine recommendations and pairings for guests
Handle guest inquiries and special requests related to the wine program
Lead wine tastings and educational sessions for guests
Quality Control:

Regularly taste and evaluate wines to ensure quality and proper serving condition
Identify and address any issues with wine quality or storage
Qualifications

Certification in wine studies or sommelier training.
Previous experience in a similar role, preferably in a high-end restaurant.
In-depth knowledge of global wine regions, varietals, and vintages.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong customer service orientation with a passion for enhancing the dining experience.
Ability to work in a dynamic and fast-paced restaurant environment.
Certification from a recognized sommelier program is an asset.
Ability to lift and carry wine cases, stand for extended periods, and move comfortably in a restaurant setting.
