Banff Centre is looking for an experienced Maintenance Leadhand to join our Physical Facilities team. This is a highly skilled technical position, which performs work at the Certified Tradesperson level in the installation modification, diagnosis, repairs, and overhaul of all Steam and Hydronic boiler systems, circ. pumps, HVAC, refrigeration equipment, air conditioners, chillers, heat pumps, BMS system, pools etc. as well as the design, implementation, and follow up on all cooling related preventative and predictive maintenance programs. The Leadhand will train and direct the activities for all employees in Plant Maintenance. Specific Accountabilities Reporting to the Manager, Mechanical Systems, below are some key accountabilities: Works on heating systems and equipment, as well as the design, implementation, and follow up on all heating related preventative and predictive maintenance programs. Works on pneumatic and electronic control systems including reading, writing and modifying BMS programing with advanced user access. This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all buildings on Campus including but not limited to, hydronic reset schedules, operating pressures and temperatures, affective water treatment, air turnovers and minimum ventilation requirements set out by ASHREA. Works closely with the Boiler and Heating Technician and the Refrigeration Mechanic for the detailed planning, execution and follow up of campus wide mechanical preventive maintenance programs and predictive maintenance programs for necessary upgrades and replacement of major mechanical equipment including but not limited to boilers, pumps, motors, air handlers, associated control systems and components. Responsible for monitoring of all work completed by staff and contractors to ensure Banff Centre health and safety protocols are adhered to and to ensure all work performed is in accordance with local, provincial and federal codes. Attend meetings and be available to provide technical support by way of inspections, prepare estimates and assist in the development scope of work for projects and renovations. Identify and correct building deficiencies. Coordinate the inspection and reporting of all requirements under the Federal Halocarbon Regulations. Using written and oral instructions, as well as teaching by example, the Leadhand seeks to develop, in the maintenance staff, proper and safe work habits. This position is required to be competent in all aspects of a maintenance environment. Qualification and Educational Requirements One or more journeyman trade certificates in either refrigeration, plumbing, gas fitting, electrical and or a 4th class power engineer designation Alberta Type A or B Gas Fitter certification would be considered an asset 5+ years of work experience on all different types of manufactured boilers. A complete understanding of boiler and gas codes, rules and regulations The ability to perform all job functions related to boiler repair. Valid Alberta’s drivers’ license Special Requirements Candidates must be physically fit and capable of working in challenging environments including: confined spaces; high temperatures; loud noises; on ladders, scaffolds, etc; working with power tools, chemicals, and on or around equipment that may pose a serious threat to the safety of others. Due to the unpredictable nature of repair needs, this position may have to work weekends, nights, holidays or extended hours and may be required to be on standby. Employment Terms & Benefits In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, salaried support staff position, subject to a 6 month probation period. The annual salary for this position is $86,385 based on working 37.5 hours per week. The successful candidate will have access to a range of benefits through Alberta Blue Cross and will be eligible to participate in our defined benefit pension plan.
