As the Deputy Fire Chief, you “Take Care of Banff” by leading the development, management, implementation and administration of the Fire Fighter training programs and by providing first response and on-site command in emergency situations. These accountabilities are combined with support of fire prevention and mitigation through Fire Fighter training, public education, commercial inspections and other priorities to reduce community risk from fires and wildfires.
The Town of Banff’s fire department has a reputation and proven track record of outstanding fire prevention and protection. This role is a cornerstone of the delivery of protective services to the community of Banff and its surrounding areas. You work with the Fire Chief on initiatives and implementation of short-term response tactics and long-range emergency management strategies.
Your training programs are structured to ensure the standards of on-scene performance are exceptional. Your ability to adapt learning styles to individual and group effectiveness is practiced in past experiences. You are comfortable facilitating sessions, not just in a training capacity, but, to engage groups and partners in sharing and delivery of information, collection and summarizing feedback on actions and projects.
The completion of post-secondary education (in business, public administration or Fire Services) combined with at least five years’ work experience in a municipality (ideally with a municipal fire department) will be considered. You are competent with Microsoft Office and can your abilities in other software solutions. You have completed National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), or comparable certifications in:

1041 Fire Service Instructor – Level II
1021 Fire Officer Single-unit Incident Management
Alberta Safety Codes Officer certification – Group B Level I
Current ACP registered EMR certification or equivalent
ICS 200 or greater
FireSmart Canada Local Fire Representative
FireSmart Advanced Home Assessment
