Duties
Parks Canada is seeking a reliable, motivated and safety conscious individual who is experienced in garden and landscaping work from approximately May to September. The key duties include lawn, garden, and structural maintenance in the historical garden setting of the Cascade Gardens and other Parks Canada properties. This is outdoor, physically demanding work, involving the use of garden and landscaping tools and equipment. You will be expected to work as part of a team in a popular tourist attraction and will be a representative of Parks Canada. Effective communication and interpersonal skills are a key factor for the successful candidate.

Secondary school diploma or an acceptable combination of education training and experience.

EXPERIENCE:

Applicable to GL-MAN-02 and GL-MAN-03:

Performing labour tasks associated with landscaping and gardening in a commercial or residential setting.
Planning and carrying out tasks in a team environment.
Maintenance tasks associated with garden structures (ex. benches, fences, walkways, retaining walls).

Applicable to GL-MAN-03 only:

Operation and maintenance of commercial landscaping small engine equipment (lawn care and power equipment).

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:

The following qualifications may be applied and/or assessed because they are beneficial in carrying out the duties of the position. They may be used in screening, assessment or determining right fit for this selection process.

ADDITIONAL CERTIFICATIONS:

Standard First Aid with CPR/AED.
Certification for chainsaw use.
Post-secondary training in Horticulture.
ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE:

Operating and maintenance of commercial or residential irrigation systems.
Other experience such as traditional Indigenous plant care/plant recognition or knowledge could be considered.
OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Willing and able to work weekends, shift work, statutory holidays, and overtime, if required.
Willing and able to travel and work in a variety of climatic and geographical conditions in Banff Field Unit.
Willing and able to perform strenuous physical activity effectively and safely.
