We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Academic Program Manager to join our team in Banff, Alberta. This is a seasonal role running from mid-September to June, blending academic leadership with hands-on experiential learning and student mentorship. The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic outdoor educator with a strong commitment to conservation, local ecology, Indigenous relations and sustainable tourism. They are a skilled interpretive guide, an inspiring teacher, and a collaborative team member. Key Responsibilities · Deliver experiential, field-based learning and best practices in outdoor leadership, interpretation, and environmental ethics. · Design, develop, and continuously update program curricula to reflect evolving trends in ecotourism, guiding, and outdoor education. · Collaborate with other leadership team members, external partners, and industry experts to ensure program relevance and excellence. · Deliver lectures, seminars, and field sessions on interpretive guiding, local ecology, safety, and conservation. · Mentor aspiring guides, providing academic support, career guidance, and leadership development. · Champion ecological stewardship and sustainability initiatives within the Academy and the greater Bow Valley community. · Develop partnerships with local conservation organizations, Parks Canada, and community stakeholders. · Work closely with staff to ensure program cohesion, resource allocation, and a positive learning environment. · Participate in Timberline programs, including hiking, skiing and other outdoor pursuits. · Support administrative, marketing, and outreach activities as needed, demonstrating flexibility to contribute across business needs. Qualifications · Relevant field work or post-secondary education in areas such as Outdoor Education, Environmental Science, Ecotourism, or Education. · Significant experience working as a guide or interpretive guide within the Bow Valley, demonstrating in-depth knowledge of the region’s landscapes and communities. · Strong understanding of the Bow Valley’s local history, Indigenous heritage, ecology, and current social and environmental issues. · Demonstrated ability to teach and facilitate learning in both classroom and outdoor settings. · Experience with curriculum development, program coordination, or educational leadership. · Well established community connections and collaborative experience within the Bow Valley. · Current certifications in wilderness first aid and guiding qualifications. · Commitment to inclusion, reconciliation, and respect for diverse perspectives in outdoor programming. · Comfort with technology and adaptable to both remote and field-based education. · Adventurous, resilient, and enthusiastic about a wide range of outdoor activities throughout the seasons.
