Full job description
Banff Trail Riders is seeking skilled farriers to help maintain our herd throughout our busy summer season. All horses and mules operating in the Canadian Rocky Mountains require shoes and Banff Trail Riders is looking for licensed Farriers and apprentice farriers to help maintain our herd of over 280 animals. This role will require individuals to keep up with the demand on a daily basis- providing resets, corrective shoeing, and utilize knowledge with ropes, stock, and hot shoeing where necessary.

Schedule is flexible, but will require regular full time or part-time hours and all tools and supplies are provided by Banff Trail Riders. Farriers will also be covered by Workers Compensation Board (WCB).

This position will require you to:

Oversee our herd of over 280 horses and mules.
Ensure all animals are shod to a high standard.
Keep track of when each animal will be due for resets.
Ensure a steady and continues upkeep for summer operations.
Assist with herd health and safety.
Provide corrective shoeing as required.
Qualifications:

Farriers are required to have valid license and be able to demonstrate experience.
Apprentice applicants do not need to hold a qualification but should show experience of previous horsemanship/ equine knowledge.
Valid first aid required.
Wages will be based on experience (useful knowledge includes corrective shoeing, use of ropes/ stock, draft shoes and hot shoeing). This is fantastic opportunity to broaden your skills and work with many animals on a daily basis to build knowledge and expertise in the field.
