Theatre Practitioner - Level 3 (Wardrobe)

The Opportunity
Banff Centre is looking for a Theatre Practitioner Level 3 - Wardrobe with a focus on scenic and stage carpentry, who can work collaboratively to provide operational support and ensure the theatre stage is in order for live performances and events for our summer 2024 season!

Specific Accountabilities
Assisting in the administration of the scenic carpentry department including overseeing the safety of assigned crews within the supplied frameworks of budget, staffing, equipment, space, and time
Staying current on related industry trends including the application of up-to-date techniques and use of special materials
Applying professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency, and support level required by Performing Arts
Select and apply appropriate cleaning method for garments
Perform hand-sewing, machine-sewing, and garment-pressing techniques
Repair and maintain costumes, accessories, headgear
Perform emergency alterations
Press and steam costumes
Return costumes to show-ready condition
Qualification and Educational Requirements
Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment
Has completed a formal theatre education
Must be proficient in the use of computers and multi-media and able to operate specialized equipment
Must have a working knowledge of the theories and practices that support this discipline
Strong interpersonal skills, and ability to stay calm under pressure
Able to work with tight, changing timelines in a fast paced environment
Knowledgeable of related industry trends including the application of up to date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standards
Able to apply of professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts
Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period.
This position pays $31.51 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
