We are recruiting Trail Crew for the 2023/2024 season. We are seeking advanced and expert skiers, who work well in a team, offer superior customer service, and share our passion for working outdoors. This year’s clinic will be hosted on Saturday, April 29th. The hiring clinic will include assessments of skiing ability and participation in regular duties including establishing and maintaining snow fencing. Job Description Trail Crew team members are in a visible role and provide an outstanding experience for guests via the maintenance of skiable terrain, using specialized equipment for “snow farming” the accumulation and distribution of natural snowfall at the Ski Area. Trail Crew report to the Trail Crew Supervisor and Assistant Supervisor, the Senior Supervisor of Slopes, and work alongside the entire Mountain Operations department. Primary Job Functions Traveling safety and professionally on and off skis to perform heavy tasks, including erecting and maintaining fences on steel and bamboo. Developing and opening skiable terrain through the Ski Area. Acquiring a comprehensive knowledge of the Ski Area, runs, boundaries, terrain, and operating responsibilities. Monitoring runs, signage, and equipment placed throughout the Ski Area, reporting deficiencies and safety hazards. Communicating effectively via radio. Participating in: public safety (monitoring avalanche closures as part of the Ski Area’s control operation), lift and self-evacuations, speed control, limited scope emergency response, events (set up, take down, support). Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Experience/Requirements Strong work ethic, taking pride in the job and finished product. o Ability to ski at a high intermediate/advanced level is required. Skiing for work requires completion of a competency test, skiing and riding professionally, and is restricted to designated runs. Prepared to work flexible schedules (weekends, holidays, etc.) and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Standard First Aid is preferred. Calm under pressure and patient. Communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally. Providing your own ASTM-compliant helmet and ski equipment for work (which will get early season rock damage!) which must be in good operating condition, meet Company requirements, and will be tested. Maintain professional conduct when in uniform on or off-duty. Effectively provide support and assistance to coworkers. Attend and actively participate in meetings, training, and company initiatives. Adherence to all company policies, and procedures concerning public safety and access. Must be neat, punctual, and dependable. Additional Considerations This is a physically demanding role, which requires the ability to stand and ski for long periods of time, constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting of and skiing with backpacks, equipment and loads (up to 20 kg), balancing and skiing with heavier loads. Trail Crew may be required to ski with a loaded toboggan. This role operates small equipment and hand tools, and shoveling is a frequent task.
