Theatre Practitioner - Level 3 (Stage technician)

The Opportunity
Banff Centre is looking for a Theatre Practitioner Level 3 - Stage Technician who can work collaboratively to provide operational support and ensure the theatre stage is in order for upcoming performances.

Specific Accountabilities
Interpreting and generating technical information
Load-ins and load-outs of theatre equipment and scenery materials
Assisting the other Theatre Practitioners and Practicum Participants
Selecting the appropriate tools for a task and operating them in a safe manner
Running the show in the absence of a stage manager
Rigging
Operating and maintaining stage equipment
Assisting with dismantling and storing of the sound and rigging systems as well as the tear down and storage of sets and backdrops
Complying with safety codes and best practice standards
May provide direction to up to various department staff and Practicum Participants
Performing administrative duties as required for the position
Qualification and Educational Requirements
Must have a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a working practitioner in their discipline within a Theatre or Performing Arts production environment.
Has completed a formal theatre education
Must be proficient in the use of computers and multi-media and able to operate specialized equipment.
Must have a working knowledge of the theories and practices that support this discipline.
Knowledgeable of related industry trends including the application of up to date techniques, and use of special materials and current health and safety standards.
Able to apply of professional theatre techniques and methods to provide the quality, efficiency and support level required by Performing Arts.
Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period.
This position pays $24.75 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a rotating schedule.
This is a term position, ending March 31, 2022.
