The Opportunity
We're looking for an Assistant Piano Technician to assist the Head Piano Technician in implementing general long-range and detailed short-range maintenance plans for the campus instruments. Work will also include assisting with shop maintenance and with the maintenance of record-keeping regarding instruments, work hours, and piano shop inventory, the overall operation of all piano tuning and maintenance of campus instruments, and participating in educational activities related to the piano technical field.

Roles and Responsibilities
Help to schedule and carry out all campus tunings and minor repairs, participate in major rebuilding projects, maintain a current inventory of each piano’s location and condition and help develop shop and tuning schedules.
Contribute to the maintenance, development, and safe day-to-day technical operation of the piano shop, related equipment and inventories.
Help maintain piano shop equipment, machinery and premises in top running order, and ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
Assist with the supervision and coaching of technical work-studies and technical residency participants.
Maximize effectiveness in the technical aspects of the job by staying current, informed, and connected with developments in the field and with colleagues.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements
At least 10 years of recognized professional experience in the piano technology field, including experience with post-secondary institutions, concert halls, and recording studios

At least 5 years' experience teaching and coaching in the piano technology field

A proven track record of success in piano tuning and maintenance

Able to work at a high level of professionalism with a wide variety of artists on a wide variety of instruments

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Self-directed with strong organizational skills

Special Requirements
Due to the nature of the job, this position requires the candidate to be available to work a flexible, irregular schedule, and weekends.
Employment Terms & Benefits
In accordance with CUPE 4318, this is a unionized, hourly support staff position, subject to a 500-hour probationary period.
This position pays between $30.75 and $32.29 per hour working up to 40 hours per week on a regular schedule.
This is a term position from June 16 - August 31, 2024
